OPUS 2010-new conference and concert hall in Pécs

The construction of the OPUS 2010 Conference and Concert Hall in Pécs – as part of the European Capital of Culture project - starts these days. The contractor has 469 days left to build the center, the deadline for construction is 30th September, 2010. The building will have the capacity to host 1000 guest at the same time, but the auditorium will be transformable to 928 or 880 person depending on the type of events.
With its conference- and section rooms, this Hall will be the largest multifunctional building in the South Transdanubian region. On the ground floor a meeting room (maximum capacity:  368 guests) guests will be constructed which can be further transformed to three section rooms; while the conference room on the firts floor (capacity: 287 guests) will be suitable for dance performances.

Luxury hotel to be built in Sopron

Despite the economical and financial crisis, after a few years preparational phase the construction of the first luxury hotel in Sopron, starts in a few days. Sopron is an important historic town, situated in the western border of Hungary. The 4-star Hotel Scarbantia will be built in line with the reconstruction of the historical downtown.
The hotel in numbers: 142 rooms, spa for 400 guests, 220 m2 Conference section, underground garage for 262 vehicles - all this in 31000 m2. The consturction of a 2000 m2 multifunctional public square is also included in the project. According to the plans the hotel will open in the first quarter of 2011.

Cooperation between Syma Events Hall and Meeting Budapest Organizer Ltd.

The Syma Event Hall and one of Hungary’s market leader PCOs, Meeting Budapest Ltd. made an arrangement: the congress organizer officially opened an office in the Event Hall on the 15th of June. "We hope that the construction of the new congress center next to the present event hall with a capacity of 5000 persons will begin soon. Until then, the direction thinks ahead and makes its supply palette and infrastructure more extensive" - said András Szántó, owner of the SYMA Hall.

New business hotel in the 9th district of Budapest

In July the Actor Business Hotel will open in the 9th district of the Hungarian capital. The new facility will focus on the business- and leasure travellers. A writing-desk, a safe and wifi internet will serve the needs of these guests in their room. At the moment the 250 m2 restaurant has sound ampification system and a Sony projektor, while a smaller meeting room for 10 persons also serves as conference rooms. From autumn this year several section rooms with the latest technical equipment and natural lighting will be available for business guests.

UIA Statisctics 2008 - Budapest in the TOP 10 again

According to the latest publications of the Union of International Associations (UIA) Budapest jumped to the 8th place on the list of the most popular conference destinations in the World. This is a great achievement compared to the previous year, when Budapest was 24th on the list.

The organization distinguishes 3 different categories based on the size- duration- and the organizers of the events. Hungary achieved the 20th place in the category A and B and 21th in the category C with 175 conferences held in the country. Budapest achieved 8th place in all the three categories with 141 events. (In 2007 Hungary was 27th in the annual UIA ranking.)

Year by year more Hungarian cities appear on the UIA ranking, in 2008 14 cities hosted conferences that fulfil the requirements of the association (for example: Debrecen, Pécs, Miskolc, Veszprém).

On the top of the country ranking stands the USA, France and Singapore. The most popular conference cities were Singapore, Paris and Brussels. Other European cities, Vienna (4th), Barcelona (5th), Geneva (7th) and London (9th) were also among the Top 10 most attractive conference destinations in 2008.


4-star hotel boom near Budapest

Following the inauguration of the Globall Football Park & Sporthotel in Telki, Zsámbék’s first upscale hotel also opened. These two will be soon be followed by the 4-star Abacus Hotel in Herceghalom, thus marking up the Zsámbék basin on the tourist map. The region offers a wide range of attractions from nature reserves to the Pannonia Golf Club, the wine cellars of Etyek, the Korda Studio, sport facilities and cultural attractions.  Source: HTTH
