Pécs gets cultural

The OPUS 2010 Pécs Conference and Concert Centre in Hungary is set to open by 2010, when the city hosts the events of the European Capital of Culture. The multifunctional facility will have a floor area of 11.000 sgm, a main hall will seat 1.000 guests and the five section rooms combined will cater for the same number. Princess of Szilvásvárad reborn

The La Contessa Mansion Hotel opened on Valentine’s Day in Szilvásvárad (north Hungary). The former Hunguest Hotel Szilvás has been transformed into a 4-star hotel, although all work has been carried out sympathetically in order to protect the monument. The budget for the first phase of the investment exceeded HUF 1.5 billion (5.5 million euros), although it was backed by EU funding. The exclusive mansion hotel offers 44 rooms – 18 of them equipped with own saunas – and a suite. The wellness section offers amusement pools, several jacuzzis, a steam bath and a hamam. During the second phase a 150-person conference room and an extra 40 rooms, indoor squash court and bowling alley will be built. The hotel reckons on attracting mainly domestic guests but in the long term Italian, Dutch, Scandinavian and British guests are also awaited. 26th February 2009

Hotel Belvedere Budapest opened

Budapest’s brand-new boutique hotel opened in Szilágyi Erzsébet Alley (12th district). The elegant 4-star property is owned by Gyetvai Fivérek Zrt, a real estate developer. The art deco-style hotel with unique solutions offers 54 rooms, including 10 apartments. One speciality of the Belvedere is the wellness section located on the 9th floor where guests can enjoy the view of the Castle district through the glass walls. The section room can host meetings for 50-55 people, but the winter garden of the restaurant can be separated for smaller events. Operator of the hotel is Belvedere Hotels Ltd., which also manages the Alba Villa Apartmanhotel in Balatonfüred, the Pegenini Restaurant and the Mandulás Confectionary in Budapest. Source: HTTH

Abacus Hotel opening this summer

The Abacus Conference and Wellness Hotel, located in Herceghalom (20 km from Budapest), will open early in the summer. The 4-star hotel will offer 128 rooms (117 superior, 4 deluxe, 6 junior suites and a presidential suite), services include an IP TV-system, Wi-Fi, a ballroom with mobile walls for 300 persons, 5 section rooms and a business room. Royal Club Hotel to open in a month

The new apartment hotel in Visegrád will open on 13 March. The 4-star Royal Club Hotel, offering 10 hotel rooms and 39 apartments, is located close to the ferry station, next to the city centre. The hotel provides an intimate, club-hotel atmosphere; some of the apartments will be operated as time-shares. The hotel also has a conference room for 100, wellness services and a golf-simulator.
